English as a Second Language

Caroline House offers an intensive ESL program with four levels of instruction. Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 1:30 PM and follow the Bridgeport Public Schools calendar. Lessons help women learn to read, write, and speak English in a supportive classroom environment. Each day includes one hour of computer instruction when students learn typing, basic word processing and use of English-language learning programs.   

Caroline House has part-time ESL classes to accommodate the different work schedules, family demands, and learning levels of women. There are English pre-literacy classes, advanced level 5 ESL, and one-on-one and small group tutoring. Basic English is offered for women needing pre-literacy instruction before starting level 1 ESL.  The advanced classes focus on English conversation and writing skills.
