Vanessa Perez, International Concert Pianist, to Perform for Caroline House!

Vanessa Perez will play at St. Luke’s Church of Westport, CT to benefit the students of Caroline House.

Bridgeport, CT August 2012 – Venezuelan-American pianist Vanessa Perez will perform a benefit concert for Caroline House of Bridgeport.  The concert will take place at St. Luke’s Church, Westport, CT, October 26, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. 

Vanessa is a product of the energized musical culture in Venezuela that produced such international stars as conductor Gustavo Dudamel and pianist Gabriela Montero. Praised for a bold, passionate performing style allied to musicianship of keen sensitivity, Perez has been championed by the most iconic of performers. Conductor Zubin Mehta said of the pianist: “Her level of musical perception and artistic awareness impressed me as much as her total command of the keyboard.” And the legendary pianist Claudio Arrau was touched by her playing, describing Perez as “a pianist whose technique, musicality, and intelligent approach to the music she plays made a profound impression on me.”

At 11 years old, Vanessa left her family and her home in Venezuela to pursue her dream of becoming a pianist.  She moved to the United States to study with the best piano teachers and coaches in the country.  After 6 years here, Vanessa left for London on a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy.  She then moved back to the U.S. and attended Yale for her Master.  Now, signed to Telarc/Concord Music Group and playing in some of the best venues in the world, Vanessa is quickly becoming one of the most sought after artists on the classical music scene.  A dual citizen of the U.S. and Venezuela, she currently resides just outside Manhattan, in New Jersey.

Thank you Sacred Heart Students!

Caroline House was recently a “pet project” of Sacred Heart University’s Community Connections Program. Over 30 university students descended on Caroline House to sweep, mop, scrub, garden and move furniture. For two days these student worked to get Caroline House ready for it’s first day of school on September 10^th. Caroline House of Bridgeport helps women to learn English and life skills, provides a preschool and after-school program for neighborhood children.

Community Connections is a freshman orientation program led by senior students and involving faculty and staff and provides an introduction to various service opportunities in the surrounding community. These students spend six days at St. Charles Urban Retreat Center in Bridgeport, where they work together at various not-for-profits, thereby increasing their students understanding of urban issues and contributing to the Bridgeport community.
