Sister Ann Moles, SSND, Executive Director

Sister Ann, born and raised in New Jersey, has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the Colegio Universitario Del Sagrado Corazon in Santurce, Puerto Rico and holds a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Mathematics from the University of Dayton in Ohio. As an accomplished educator, bilingual in English / Spanish, she has been both a teacher and school principal for over 20 years in Puerto Rico where she developed a love of Hispanic-Latino culture.

Sister Ann joined Caroline House as Executive Director in September, 2005. She remarks, “I am honored and proud to take this leadership role on behalf of the mission of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. This is another step in life’s pathway to extend educational opportunities to the less fortunate. I feel blessed to continue the fine legacy of Caroline House.” Sister Ann’s vision for Caroline House is to create a positive environment of sustainability to advance the mission for future generations. She brings vision, humor, and spiritual strength to her leadership position.

Mary Ellen Gavin, Development Director

Mary Ellen has been named Development Director for Caroline House. She has many years experience as a community fund raiser throughout Fairfield County. She has recent experienced with local nonprofits implementing and executing two successful capital campaigns along with several annual appeals for several organizations.

"I am looking forward to helping Caroline House continue its mission. I hope to lead the development team to provide for a long and healthy financial future. The work the teachers perform here is truly remarkable. They provide not only English skills but life skills to help the families adapt to our culture. I feel very lucky to have become involved with Caroline House."

Mary Ellen resides in Fairfield with her husband and two daughters.

Connie Carrigan, SSND

Sister Connie spent her summer teaching English to the SSND in Budapest, Hungry, an experience she found very rewarding and educational. Sister Connie has ministered for over 40 years in education on all levels. A teacher and administrator, she worked in schools in Connecticut, Florida, and New Jersey. She also ministered in Chile and served most recently as coordinator of spiritual development for the Miami School Department before coming to Caroline House in 2001.

Ellen Fitzsimmons, SSND

Sister Ellen was a teacher of English and an administrator in both elementary and junior high schools for 45 years in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York. She came to Caroline House in 1996 to teach English.

Sister Irene Hughes, SSND, Teacher
 

Sister Irene is known for her lilting greeting, “Good Morning,” delivered with musical intent and always guaranteed to earn a smile. She incorporates the music of language into her classroom repertoire, teaching Level 2 students the prose iambic pentameter of English, often not so obvious to new ears! “I love teaching at Caroline House. It is one of the best things I have ever done.” She speaks from a wealth of experience.

Sister Irene is a very accomplished educator and traveler with a broad understanding of cultures and communities. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English and a Master of Arts in Education. She has lived for 20 years in Puerto Rico as well as Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, and New England. An international traveler, she speaks Spanish and has visited Spain, France, Italy, and Germany. She is a virtual globetrotter who brings her global understanding of humanity to Caroline House students.

Jean Fredricks

Jean spent eight years as head teacher in a Westport, Connecticut day care program before coming to Caroline House in 1999. Her long experience with mothers and their children began when she was director of a New York City home for unwed mothers
in the 1980s.

Ilona Mensik, SSND

Sister Ilona was the Director of Outreach at St. Charles Borromeo, the parish in which Caroline House is located for four years prior to joining Caroline House. She is the coordinator of the life skills program. Before that, she taught in schools in Connecticut and New York for 26 years, and was provincial secretary for nine years.

Deirdre Signore

Deirdre is spending her first year at Caroline House. A junior in college, she majors in education, focusing on early childhood development. She arranges her schedule so that all her classes are late afternoon or evening, making it possible for her to take care of the babies during the day.

 

Sister Mariano Pardo, SSND

Caroline House welcomes our newest teacher, Sister Mariano. Sister Mariano is teaching level 3 English. Sister began her teaching career in Puerto Rico. State side, she ministered in education and administration in the tri-state area and Florida. Her latest position before coming to us was an English as a Second Language teacher and Citizenship instructor in Newark, New Jersey at the Hispanic Development Corporation. She has had many years experience in education and has helped adults attain their citizenship. One of her recent undertakings was to teach English to Sisters from Tanzania.
