Not only does Caroline House operate dead center between
the two most pressing concerns of the target population -- education
and jobs for themselves and care for their children -- it is also located
within a block of two elementary schools where the mothers drop their
school-age children every day. This means that after leaving their children
at school, mothers can simply walk to Caroline House with their preschool
age children to participate, worry-free, in programs that will benefit
the entire family.
Whether infants or toddlers, all preschool age children are welcome
at Caroline House. They are engaged by a qualified staff in a full agenda
of preschool education and play activities, while in classrooms just
a few steps away, their mothers spend 5 hours a day learning English
as a second language and basic computer literacy skills in a safe, secure environment.
Transportation and childcare -- perennial barriers to program solutions
for this population -- are virtually eliminated due to this neighborhood-based
learning facility.
During this past year,
however, we are finding that more and more of our clients are coming
from other parts of the city. We also find that
clients are coming to us via of city agencies and other learning centers – Mercy
Learning Center; Welfare and Social Service Agencies; Career Resources,
International Institute, Legal Aid Providers, etc.
