In the eight years of
operation, the staff has accomplished the following: • Committed
teaching and child care staff (eight full time paid staff positions)
to run an education
program house with on-site childcare including • Recruited and taught over 600 women from our target population English as a Second Language (ESL), during our eight years of operation. (50 women participate during each instructional year with 22 or more children in the children's program.) • Expanded our program to include instruction in basic computer literacy, keyboarding skills, and a wide range of life resource learning programs, counseling and networking services • Completed
construction of a $90,000 addition to Caroline House, in the summer
of 1997 to accommodate more participants. We generated sufficient
funds to liquidate the loan for this project and it is now paid

• Recruited a full-time Director of Planning and Development to insure that Caroline House will be financially solvent with a yearly balanced budget, and to begin to save for expansion
• Recruited a qualified coordinator and assistant of the children's program - including a nursery and preschool development programs.
• Recruited a full-time pastoral counselor to support women participants at their point of need, assisting them in finding the proper service providers - domestic violence, welfare, childcare, fair housing, safe homes, jobs, etc., to ensure that Caroline House is well linked to existing agencies and services.
• Collaborated with Sacred Heart University and Fairfield University involving the students enrolled in Service Learning courses - used student volunteers as tutors, and as childcare assistants. (15 students and 8 adults volunteered this past semester)
• Converted a two-car garage into a children's outdoor playhouse
